One of the most eagerly anticipated events on the Pacific Business calendar is back in 2010, with the MIT Pacific Business Awards scheduled for Friday 19th of November at the Telstra Clear Pacific Events Centre in Manukau.

The awards were first held in 1993 and since then have become the premier event recognising business excellence within the Pacific Island community in New Zealand. PBT is also pleased to confirm the naming rights sponsor for the event will once again be Manukau Institute of Technology (MIT).

Last held in 2007 the Pacific Business Trust postponed this bi-annual event in 2009, as many businesses battled to survive the worst effects of the global recession.

Survival had become the key focus for many rather than growth, the more conventional measure of success explains PBT Chief Executive Peter Cordtz. Having emerged from the toughest period, its entirely appropriate to once again acknowledge the achievement of our top business performers.

2010 also represents a significant milestone for PBT as it celebrates its 25th anniversary, providing an opportunity to incorporate several special elements into the event added Mr Cordtz However before those are confirmed, the priority will be to identify those worthy of consideration for the 2010 awards.

Nominations have opened this week for the eight main award categories with a deadline for receiving applications of Friday 22 October.

Mr Cordtz clarified This relatively short turnaround time is to ensure we are able to complete a robust assessment process prior to the event, so I would urge all those interested to complete a nomination form as soon as possible.

The eight award categories will acknowledge the top Pacific Exporter; Employer/Workplace; Young Entrepreneur; Executive; Business Woman; Emerging Enterprise; Business Person and Business.

The criteria for these categories and the entry process are summarised in the nomination form which can be downloaded at and are also available at PBT offices in Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch (forms can be requested by phoning 0800 287 7526).
