Coastal mana whenua marae meet at Maketu Marae, Kawhia, 6 Nov 2010 @10am

On 25 September 2010, coastal mana whenua marae associated with Kawhia Moana, Aotea and Whaingaroa harbours met at Waipapa Marae, Kawhia. At the hui the coastal tribes agreed in principle to work collectively on all matters that concern their mana whenua interests in relation to the three harbours. It was also agreed that there be a follow up hui to further develop the way the coastal tribes will work together.

The follow up hui for the coastal tribes with mana whenua responsibilities for Kawhia Moana, Aotea and Whaingaroa harbours will take place with due respect to Te Tumu o Tainui, Te Ahurei and H?ni and Puna at Maketu Marae, Kawhia on 6 November 2010, starting at 10am.

The kaupapa for the hui is to reach agreement on:

1. The key elements of a collective agreement between the tribes with mana whenua over Kawhia Moana, Aotea and Whaingaroa harbours,
2. The key next steps in our relationship with the Crown at central and local government level on matters of interest to the coastal people, and
3. Other business.
