Maori company takes the pain out of muscle gain

2 min read

A Maori owned and operated business is launching a unique muscle gain programme targeting athletes and fitness enthusiasts.

MusclePLUS is an innovative new concept which incorporates ready-to-eat muscle gain meals, tailored meal plans, dietary assessments, resistance training programmes and ongoing consultation.

Tailored specifically for each individual, the muscle gain programme is suitable for gym goers, body builders and rugby and rugby league players as well as athletes from all codes including rowers, cyclists, boxers and weightlifters.

The company which has been supported by Te Puni Kokiri in its start-up phase is run by Darrell Naden (Ruawaipu, Te Aitanga-a-Hauiti, Whakatohea, Te Whanau-a-Apanui) and wife, Jocelyn (Ngati Maniapoto, Te Whanau-a-Apanui, Te Aitanga-a-Hauiti) while Darrells parents, Joseph and Ngarangi, brother Guy and cousin Mark Lewis are members of the board.

Darrell says some 30 per cent of the Maori population is engaged in some sport or fitness activity and MusclePLUS hopes to cater to that market.

We take the pain out of muscle gain, says Darrell. No more meal planning and food calculations, no more weighing chicken breasts, pieces of steak or lumps of potato, no more slaving over a stove, cooking boring, bland meals.

Our ready-to-eat muscle gain meals provide all of the protein, carbohydrates and fats that athletes need and were saving them copious amounts of time otherwise spent on meal preparation.

Our sports dieticians know the science of nutrition backwards and they ensure that we get their diet right, monitor their progress and help them to stay motivated.

MusclePLUS opened its first store at 5/179 Harris Road in East Tamaki, Auckland, today (Monday November 29) and has plans for other outlets throughout Auckland, the Waikato and the Bay of Plenty
