Immunise. Your children, our community

1 min read

(Source | Ministry of Health) As parents, we go the extra mile to protect our children. Getting your child immunised on time is something you can do to help protect them from diseases that can make them extremely sick. And youre also helping to protect your family, friends, whanau and community because the more people who are immune, the lower the chance of a disease outbreak.

Here in Aotearoa we still get outbreaks of diseases like measles and whooping cough. Right now about 16 out of 20 of our under-two-year-olds are fully immunised which is not enough to prevent outbreaks of diseases but if we can get to 19 out of 20, our communities will be protected.

Immunisation works best when your child gets the recommended vaccines on time. Your family doctor or health professional can explain how the free immunisation programme works and answer any questions you have.

Visit to find out more about immunisation, vaccine safety and effectiveness, the risks and benefits, and common reactions. And you can check out some real-life stories from parents who made the decision to immunise their child.

You can also call the Immunisation Advisory Centres toll-free helpline 0800 IMMUNE (0800 466863).
