Taonga of Taranaki Rugby to be presented to Puke Ariki Museum

Taranaki Tribal Rugby will be commemorated as part of the Taranaki Rugby Football Union exhibition commemorating 125 years of Taranaki Rugby from 27 August 13 November 2011 at Puke Ariki Museum in New Plymouth.

This exhibition has been planned to coincide with the region hosting RWC2011 pool games.

The Parihaka Shield is an example of the symbolism behind the many taonga that have been fiercely fought between the tribes of the Taranaki region for nearly 100 years which will be presented to Puke Ariki Museum this weekend.

Representatives of the Tribal clubs from Nga Rauru, Ngati Ruanui, Nga Ruahine, Pukeariki, Atiawa, Manawapou, Ngaere, Taranaki Tribal will commence their journey by meeting 3.00pm this Sunday (8 May 2011) at the Clifton Rugby Clubrooms, Tikorangi and then converging on Puke Ariki Museum at 3.00pm to handover the taonga into the care of the museum.

A Taranaki Tribal Rugby tournament is also planned to be held on 10 September at The Hub in Hawera.
