Help our film get to Berlin Film Festival – its been accepted in competition to one of the top 5 film festivals in the world! We just need finishing funds.

Our Story

Have your name on a Berlin Film Festival film!

And if you live in America get fantastic tax benefits with your donation.

My team and I have been working on MAORI BOY GENIUS for 3 years now, the extraordinary coming-of-age journey of a young indigenous boy from New Zealand. Ever met a President at age 16?

This film introduces you to Ngaa Rauuira Pumanawawhiti and observes him as he breaks through shocking statistics for young Maori males, to attend Yale Summer Semester at aged 16. He returns to New Zealand and takes his first political steps, in a move even I and my cameraman could never have predicted.

Yes, your donation could get you in the credits of this film. I’m a documentary filmmaker from New Zealand. My previous film, THE ART STAR AND THE SUDANESE TWINS won an award at the Sundance Film Festival 2008. And now my latest film MAORI BOY GENIUS has been invited in competition to the Berlin Film Festival 2012.

We did get some initial funding from New Zealand government agencies. But we now need US$50,000 towards the edit, online, sound mix, music rights and marketing.

Its an incredible honour to be invited in competition to the Berlin Film Festival, regarded as one of the top five film festivals in the world. Now we just need to finish the film! Please, help us do that. And if you’re an American your get fantastic tax refunds by making your donation.

“He’s precious, and gifted, a Matakite – a Wiseman… but really he’s just a child. Hee, hee.” Ngaa Rauuira’s Grandma.

The Impact

This is an beautiful, important, and positive indigenous story. It will encourage all to reach beyond their perceived limitations. The Berlin Film Festival will be our world premier and then as with my other films, I know this will go on to other international film festivals and television networks. The story will get out there – why not be a part of its success?

What We Need & What You Get

To complete the film we need $50,000. But for this particular fundraising campaign on Indiegogo, we have initially set the goal at $10,000 though whatever we raise will be used towards the completion of the film. Whether it means doubling my personal debt, come what may Ngaa Rauuira and I will be there at the premier in Berlin – with this film! So the money you donate WILL go towards completion of the film. This is a definite.

I have also applied for other international funds, and approached individuals to help.

Here’s the breakdown of how funds will be used.

01 Pay for the Editor and Edit suite to complete the film. (The Berlin Film Festival selectors viewed and saw the potential from a dvd of the unfinished film.)

02 Pay for the Online Suite and Editor to work towards us truly bringing these beautiful images to life – the richness of the New Zealand landscape and Ngaa Rauuira’s life, and in contrast the deep history of the Yale campus.

03 Pay for the Film Sound Design and Mix

04 Pay for the Film Music Rights (for world release)

05 Pay for the output of the Film to a format able to be played at Berlin Film Festival

06 Pay for Marketing and Distribution costs for the World Premier launch at Berlin Film Festival

Other Ways You Can Help

Please share this with as many people through as many networks as you can and help us reach our goal.

$20,000 and your name will appear as a Producer in the credits of the film on both theatrical and television versions. You will also get a DVD of the film once released, a double ticket when the film premiers near you, and when I’m next in your town and you’d like an entertainer at a dinner party I’d love to come over, screen clips and talk anecdotes – or give advice to your children about the documentary film industry!

$40,000 and your name will appear as an Executive Producer, and all of the above, plus a full collection of my films. And IMDB of course!

These donations are tax deductible through our 501(c)(3) partner.

Please note that these are honorary titles and do not engender any creative or business involvement/decision-making nor does the credit entitle any claim of ownership.
