Auckland Urban Maori radio station, Radio Waatea 603am, this week launched its new Maori News website

The website is the most comprehensive bilingual Maori news website in the country.

Radio Waatea Station Manager, Bernie ODonnell says will be a one stop shop for Maori digital news and current affairs.

Users will have access to written audio and visual material produced by some of Maoridoms finest journalists and broadcasters. Scotty Morrison, Julian Wilcox, Kingi Taurua, Ngawai Herewini, Titewhai Harawira, Dale Husband and Waatea Managing Director Willie Jackson will give news and views that feature on the website.

The website will take our news and current affairs to new heights,” says Mr O’Donnell.

“Waatea has been producing the Te Mangai Paho funded National Maori language news for eight years so the website will enhance Maori language news and open it up to a new audience.

News in Te Reo will feature alongside Waateas English news which is edited by veteran journalist Adam Gifford

waateanews.comis designed to give a bilingual user experience that is smooth, simple, and engaging.

Users can submit news tips or opinions, subscribe to podcasts, or interact through social media.

Waatea was the first to produce an app putting its news on smartphones. That thinking has been carried through, which smartphone users can view in a compact version while retaining full-site functionality.
