1 min read

The Maori Party has selected Marama Fox of Ngati Kahungunu, Ngati Porou as their 6th candidate to challenge for the Ikaroa Rawhiti electorate held by Labour’s Meka Whaitiri who succeeded the late Parekura Horomia.

As we lead into the season of Matariki, our party gives thanks for the new energy that is coming forward to take up the mantle from our founding leaders, Tariana and Pita – Maori Party President Rangimarie Naida Glavish.

Marama has experience as an educational leader who has taught in many areas of maori education including kohanga reo, kura kaupapa Maori, wharekura and secondary education. Marama recently held a position as an advisor in the Ministry of Education.

Marama has developed a strong set of transferable skills throughout her career, in areas such as project management, relationship management, leadership, critical thinking, strategic analysis and communications, making her a strong candidate for quality representation to offer the Ikaroa Rawhiti electorate.

Over the last few years her role in promoting Ka Hikitia, and Tataiako motivated her to look closely at the concept of transformation – of Maori succeeding as Maori, marama said.

Marama is a proud mother of nine children. This and Whanau Ora has always resonated with her whanau, as a model of breeding success. She want’s to dedicate the best years of her career to truly embedding Whanau Ora into our national psyche – and Ikaroa Rawhiti is the ideal environment to place her energy, she said.
