Renowned World Hula Champion Alex Nicholls brings his Hula Cardio Fitness to NZ

International renowned World Hula Champion Alex Nicholls will be coming to Aotearoa with his vibrant dance group the Tropical Island Hula Entertainers in June. As a special treat he’ll be offering Hula Cardio Fitness classes in Wellington and Christchurch as well as visiting local school in the area.

Tropical Island Hula are a group that specialises In vibrant, exotic & modern upbeat Polynesian Entertainment, bringing to New Zealand all the love and beautiful smiles from some of the magnificent beautiful islands of the pacific which including the Cook Islands, Hawaii, Tahiti, Samoa and of course Aotearoa” explainsAlex Nicholls’, lead dancer of Tropical Island Hula.

The adventure for Tropical Island Hula Entertainers began in 2006 when a small collective of Polynesian families and their children gathered together with a common goal to teach, learn and maintain the cultural ties to the various Polynesian traditional dance and music styles of the Pacific Islands.

Alex Solo 06Alex Nicholls’ (pictured)travels with the group around the world performing and is bringing the group to New Zealand for a long overdue visit before heading to Taiwan for a 3 month tour.

It all began one day when Alex decided what he was most passionate about was sharing and celebrating his culture “I wanted to promote my culture and work with the hopes that I would motivate and inspire children, kids and teenagers to be the best they can be especially those from Pasifika and Maori communities”.

Alex will then travel to Wellington & Christchurch hosting a series of Hula Cardio Fitness classes and workshops in schools, with a focus to work towards rolling out a Cultural, Hula, Health and Fitness program through schools next year in 2015.

While in New Zealand Tropical Island Hula will be performing in South Auckland at Club Royalz on Friday 6 June and onSaturday 7 June the group will showcase their talents to the community in an ages event held at 42 Lovegrove Crescent, Otara:

  • $5 (10yrs-17yrs)
  • FREE (9 and under)

Hula Cardio Fitness

TROPICAL HULA FITNESS is a fun and interactive program encouraging families to adopt a healthy lifestyle, to become, fitter healthier and happier as they have fun. It is a community project that engages all ages and fitness levels a social enterprise which supports community and looks at adaptive/social change through means of music cultural and dance strategies.

TROPICAL HULA Fitness is packaged to suit the communities needs and facilitated by International current King of Hula Dance Champion Alex Nicholls and director of `Tropical Island Hula Entertainers’.

Tropical Hula Fitness offers easy to follow low impact workout which is inspired by the dancing styles of the Pacific Islands and it provides a low impact total body workout for all ages and wellbeing.

Low impact doesnt mean low intensity. It is a fun, new and exciting dance workout!!!

It incorporates easy to perform dance movements set to the sounds of the Pacific drum beats fused with funky R&B & Hip-pop music resulting in a modern, hip fitness workout.


This Polynesian shows provide fun, exciting and quality family rated entertainment with a touch of modern contemporary dance style for versatility.
