Ngati Porou are being called to Wellington in September to celebrate the 31stanniversary of the prestigious and popular lecture series named for one of the country’s greatest politicians, Sir Apirana Ngata.

The Sir Apirana Ngata Memorial Lectures have rarely been held outside the heart of Ngati Porou but this year, between 4 and 7 September, one of those rare occasions is happening at Te Papa Tongarewa.

Topics of significance to all Maori – whakapapa, te reo and waiata/haka to name a few – will be delivered by a number of Maoridom’s leaders including the chairman of Te Runanganui o Ngati Porou, Dr Apirana Mahuika, Sir Tamati Reedy, Dame Iritana Tawhiwhirangi, Honourable Hekia Parata, Te Papa’s acting CE, Dr Arapata Hakiwai, Huia Kopua from NZ film Archives and artist and composer of the All Black haka, Derek Ladelli.
