Tauranga Women’s Refuge Inc – Help Needed

p02946pnTauranga Womens Refuge (TWR) is a not for profit crisis intervention service working with women and children affected by Domestic Violence in the Tauranga Moana and outlying districts. They operate a 24/7 crisis line and safe house and run a community office where they offer free counselling, childrens programmes (to the age of 17), community client services, support, advice and advocacy.

In their last financial year they:

  • housed 171 women and children;funded for 107
  • delivered 18, 12 week programmes to children who have witnessed domestic violence;
  • delivered 170 counselling hours;
  • attended 46, 3 hour family violence meetings where we were allocated the most at risk whanau in our community;unfunded
  • worked with 203 community clients and their children to support them while they remained living in the community.unfunded

TWR need to fund raise to maintain their current service delivery they have a shortfall of over $100,000 per year. They currently have two full time and four part time staff and need more paid hours for their staff so they can continue to deliver expert and professional services to the community.

They need volunteers!

Ideally you will be

  • Fit and Healthy
  • Able to stand on your feet for a shift
  • Have a full drivers license
  • Be prepared to lift, sort and price as necessary (tasks allocated to skill)
  • Pass a police vetting check
